HONGKONG, 10th. February, 1915.

some time under consideration proposals for the extension of the public recreation grounds in the Colony which are entirely in- -adequate for the requirements of the local athletic and recrea-

not only to the growth of the population but to the increasing taste of the rising Chinese generation for outdoor recreations. The only suitable area available for such extension is in the Sookunpoo

Valley where however much of the flat land is in the ownership of

Sir Robert Jardine. This property comprised Inland Lots 1019, 1020

and 1021 and was valued at $58,250 in 1907.

-presentatives, less. Jardine, Matheson & Co., were carrying on negotiations with the Government with a view to obtaining a reduction in the claim for the premium of 863,457 for conversion

of Inland Lot 29 into a Marine Lot.in accordance with an under-

-taking made by the Firm in 1903 which the Government desired to

put into effect in connection with the proposed Praya East Recla-

-mation Scheme.

3.

In order to acquire the extension I said that

I would recommend to you the acceptance of Sir Robert Jardine's
